Ukraine has agreed to a ceasefire in its ongoing conflict with Russia and is now awaiting a response from its northern neighbor. This development follows discussions held between U.S. and Ukrainian officials in Saudi Arabia on March 11, where they explored potential solutions to end the war with Russia.
In a statement to cameras in Jeddah, Secretary of State Marco Rubio urged Russia to accept the ceasefire agreement. He said, “We hope to present this offer to the Russians, and we are hopeful they will accept it, saying yes to peace.”
“The ball is now in their court. However, the president’s primary goal, above all else, is to bring an end to this war, and today, Ukraine has made a significant move toward that goal. We hope Russia will respond in kind.”
Russia began its invasion of Ukraine on February 24, 2022, and currently controls nearly 20% of the country. Since then, the U.S. has provided approximately $65.9 billion in military aid, according to the State Department.

Representatives of both nations praised the bravery of the Ukrainian people in defense of their nation and agreed that now is the time to begin a process toward lasting peace. The Ukrainian delegation reiterated the Ukrainian people’s strong gratitude to President Trump, the U.S. Congress, and the people of the United States for making possible meaningful progress toward peace.
“Ukraine expressed readiness to accept the US proposal to enact an immediate, interim 30-day ceasefire, which can be extended by mutual agreement of the parties, and which is subject to acceptance and concurrent implementation by the Russian Federation. The United States will communicate to Russia that Russian reciprocity is the key to achieving peace.

“Finally, the presidents of both countries agreed to swiftly finalize a comprehensive agreement aimed at developing Ukraine’s critical mineral resources. This initiative will help expand Ukraine’s economy, offset the cost of American assistance, and ensure Ukraine’s long-term prosperity and security.”
